Shinders Downtown Minneapolis Location Today

Just clearing out some more of the articles I had bookmarked from researching the history of Shinders…after closing in 2007, the Shinders downtown Minneapolis storefront sat vacant for several years, until 2011 when design firm Shea, Inc. agreed to take over the space.

They ended up moving mostly into the second floor, while apparently Union Restaurant moved into the majority of the main floor & rooftop.  Marquee Lounge moved into the basement originally, but appears to have closed.

Finance & Commerce Article 1, after agreeing to move into the new location.

Finance & Commerce Article 2, after completing the renovation & moving in.

Originally built in 1947, the building was occupied by a Snyders Drug & Burger King before Shinders moved in. The project was trying to preserve noteworthy features such as an interior spiral staircase and terrazzo flooring that has the old Snyders Drug logo on it.

As for other Shinders locations?

I recently drove by where Shinders Burnsville was located–that strip mall appears to have been completely overhauled, I believe the part of the Mall that you would go into to enter Shinders is now part of another chain store. And last time I drove by Leisure Lane in Edina I believe it had been completely overhauled as well, although I didn’t actually go in.  I’ll try to track down more locations as time allows.

Hard to believe there was either a Snyders or Burger King here. I have a photo of it from the early 50s as a Shinders.
